International Roaming with Woolworths Mobile
Dreaming of your next international trip? Keep your current number and stay connected with family and friends while you’re travelling overseas. Simply add an International roaming Add-on to your existing plan. There is no bill shock, simply add more via the Woolworths Mobile app as you need it.
What is international roaming?
International roaming or ‘global roaming’ is a service that allows you to use your mobile phone overseas. You can continue to make calls, send SMS, and access helpful resources when travelling such as maps and ride-sharing apps. If you have a Woolworths Mobile plan, you can choose one of our International Roaming Add-ons which includes data, calls and SMS that lasts between 1 and 15 days when you’re overseas. By adding international roaming to your plan, you’ll be able to make the most of your trip straight away with access to online maps, travel, messaging and social media apps.
How does international data roaming work!
Data roaming works by extending the coverage of the home operator’s services, allowing you to use your existing phone number within another country. For example, have you ever turned your phone on at an overseas airport to order a taxi and realised that you are already connected to the network? This is because Telstra has a wholesale roaming agreement with the visited mobile operator network. Click here for International roaming - eligible countries. If your Data roaming is already turned on, the connection will happen automatically. Should I turn data roaming off in my own country? No, you don't have to. When you are in your home country, you use mobile data and not data roaming when surfing the internet.

Did you know
- All Woolworths Mobile customers can receive SMS when overseas without adding a Roaming add-on, when your phone successfully connects to an eligible roaming operator in one of the Eligible Countries. This means you can still do your banking and get other security verifications while overseas without needing to purchase an add-on.
- To send an SMS, make calls or use data (not on WiFi), you'll need to purchase one of the above International Roaming Add-ons.
- If you already have the Woolworths Mobile app on your phone, you can purchase an add-on at any time.
Log into My Account or the Woolworths Mobile app and select “Add-ons”. Your international data roaming add-on will be available immediately but your day starts the day after you purchase the add-on (from midnight on the day of purchase AEST/AEDT). This means you will have 1, 5, 10 or 15 full days to use that add on, plus the extra hours on the first day you purchase the add-on.

What is data roaming?
Also known as international roaming, data roaming occurs when your phone disconnects from your carrier’s network and connects to one overseas.
What does data roaming mean?
Data roaming allows you to continue to send and receive calls and SMS as well as use data whilst overseas. Anytime your phone is connected to a network outside of your country, that’s data roaming.
Does data roaming improve the signal?
Data roaming does not improve the signal from your carrier. The purpose of data roaming is to expand your coverage into areas where your carrier does not have coverage, such as overseas.
Should data roaming be on or off?
When you connect your phone to another mobile network overseas, you will still be billed by your normal provider. Explore your International Roaming options before you go on your trip to avoid bill shock.
How to turn off international roaming?
Go to the Settings section of your mobile phone and within the Mobile Data Options, you will find the option to turn off Data Roaming, also known as International Roaming.
What is the difference between data roaming and mobile data?
Mobile data is what your mobile phone uses when you are in your home country and are connected to your provider’s network. When you leave the country and your phone connects to an overseas network, this is called data roaming.
